A few kilometers outside Quillan the Défilé de la Pierre Lys rises up. An enormous piece of nature: huge rocky walls on both sides of the narrow road. Biking in between these walls make you feel so small! But it is a wonderful sight. After the défilé the landscape kept the same although a bit more moderate. All the way up to the top of the Col d’Aussières (1020m) was one piece of nature; see the picture of the cake. Near the top the signals of the storm that has blown here were still visible, branches and trees lying on the road. From the top downwards the landscape was quite different: less forest, just little trees en a lot more rocky stones. The village Sournia was not what I expected so I decided to go on for another 20 km to Vinca over an easy route. But due to not having looked good enough at the direction boards I took another road than planned. I detected this when I had climbed too much compared to what the map said. Going back is no option for me, so the punishment was climbing over the Col de Roque Jalère (976m) to Prades. After all the punishment was only physical (I was really tired at the end of the day), but the scenery here was as lovely as all day. This mountain is part of the Parc Régional Pyrénées Catalanes: more rocks, less trees and great views. The descending to Prades was a very long one, with a lot of turns and steep parts, but I like to do this kind.
In Prades, where I took a hotel as a reward for the heavy trip of today, you can see the Spanish influence already in houses, gardens and people’s faces.
Many times today I have thought that it is a great gift that I can bike through this lovely nature in a good health (and condition of course). Until now this trip is really unforgettable and I enjoy it still every day!

Vanuit Prades met regen vertrokken. Onderweg droog geworden, mooie route. Tent in Cret opgezet. Nu weer regen. Morgen rustdag. Gr. Kees

Hoi Kees,
Je bent al lekker opgeschoten zie ik, al had ik verwacht dat je eerder de Pyreneeën zou oversteken. Maar ja, het weer zit ook niet mee natuurlijk. Je foto's van Défilé de la Pierre Lys en het huis in Prades zou zo Asturias kunnen zijn :-) Leuk. Nog ff en je bent in het beloofde land ;-) Maar Frankrijk is ook heel mooi hoor. Succes! Marcel -

Verschillende van je foto's zijn erg herkenbaar voor ons.
We zijn meerdere malen in de Pyreneeën geweest.Een prachtig gebied, erg leuk die verhalen met bekende namen en foto's.
Fijn dat het zo goed gaat ondanks de sneeuw.

ik had evn begrepen data je het over de spaansegriep had en maakte me al bezorgd. gelukkig bedoelde je wat anders gezien de foto's . prachtig die tocht zoals je die laat zien en droog weer. houden zo.
